Woke up this morning to find our car smashed up. The person who did it allegedly fled. We’re in contact with the police and we’re very hopeful it’ll all work out. You can virtually rubberneck here if you’re interested.
I’m just way worried right now, because I need that car on Tuesday morning to make the next Inkscape class session and I don’t think it’s safe to drive, and I’m not sure how that could be righted in time. I’m trying to work that out now.

Sheesh. The guy was pretty talented to get both ends.
With a little luck perhaps your insurance will cover a rental.
Posted by John McDonough | January 10, 2010, 2:53 pmYep, I’ve got my fingers crossed – although we only have liability :-/ So maybe not.
Posted by mairin | January 10, 2010, 3:13 pmSorry to hear this sort of sh*&% doesn’t just happen over here.
Posted by Jakub Steiner | January 10, 2010, 3:28 pmThey just take your car instead.
I remember seeing a video you posted of some guy stealing a car in the parking lot, from your web cam that was sitting in the window, several years ago.
Posted by Rodney Dawes | January 10, 2010, 7:56 pmnow I don’t think is so crazy to have cameras outside your home.
Posted by tatica | January 10, 2010, 4:14 pmWhat time do you need to be where on Tuesday?
Posted by David | January 10, 2010, 5:27 pmWe have to be at the Westford middle school by 7:30 am, which means leaving Davis around 6:30. :’(
Posted by mairin | January 10, 2010, 5:55 pmWell, worst case, you should be able to get a rental for 1 day for $50 or so, during the week.
Posted by Rodney Dawes | January 10, 2010, 7:59 pmyeh but there’s no way I am paying that unless insurance covers it. I have to leave at 6:30 AM, and it’s quite likely no car rental place is open then – which means I have to take a day off work to get the car the night before, and I have to by some miracle find a car rental place that is on the subway… :-/
Posted by mairin | January 10, 2010, 8:26 pmSince it is someone elses fault, their insurance should take care of a rental. But if you can’t find the guy to charge his insurance, then you’d have to use your ‘underinsured motorists’ part of your insurance. Since you have liability only, that might not be the case either.
Lastly, if you can’t get the rental and still need the car, judging from the pictures you’d be able to drive it if you remove the front bumper or duct tape it off the road enough to drive. I don’t think there was any engine damage, looks completely bumper related.
Good luck, sorry for your crappy situation.
Posted by jesus m. rodriguez | January 10, 2010, 8:56 pmShort sympathetic post of, wow that does suck. Sorry to hear.
Posted by Jim B | January 10, 2010, 9:48 pmMA drivers suck, in general. In the past 9 months, I’ve been involved in 2 accidents (in both cases, the other driver was at fault).
Posted by Andres Salomon | January 10, 2010, 10:29 pmSomeone has something against Inkscape apparently xD
Posted by DreadKnight | January 10, 2010, 11:10 pmYikes, that sucks. It clearly says “Dodge” in the back of the car and they totally didn’t
Posted by Andy | January 11, 2010, 12:50 amSorry to hear about this. I hope they catch the guy and all works out for you.
