Getting Ready for F12: Media Sleeves and Labels

Fedora 12 is not out yet, no. However, thanks in a big part to Luya being on the ball and getting started on the media artwork, and with his help, we have put together a full set of Fedora 12 media artwork. So now you can have a head start at getting your media all prepared and ready to burn next Tuesday! :)

All the media artwork has been created for the following Fedoras:

  • Fedora Desktop Live Media, 32-bit and 64-bit
  • Fedora KDE Live Media, 32-bit and 64-bit
  • Fedora Install DVD, 32-bit and 64-bit

We’ve got sleeves:

We’ve got labels:

I also put together a set of LightScribe labels. We could actually really use your help with these – I don’t have a LightScribe burner so I don’t have a way to test the design. If you’re planning to LightScribe burn F12 anyway and have the equipment to do so, would you mind giving one of the designs a try and letting us know if the label design works okay?

We also have made all of the templates used to create these designs available, so if you want to make a custom label (maybe you’ve a favorite spin you’d like to burn?) you’re free to do so. Wait a minute, you don’t own expensive Adobe software? Gee, you are silly – you don’t need that stuff! All these designs were made in Fedora! :) Check it out:

  1. Some corrections on 64-bit part, there is no 64-bit Pentium II in existence =p

  3. I haven’t actually printed the Lightscribe labels yet, but it seems the background will be too light to be effective. Lightscribe usually works best with high contrast images..

  5. Yes, the background is not noticeable. Check the pic. Also is seems the scaling is a little off. I centered it with the text on the right but the logo is not centered. Please don’t let me discourage you, as I have nothing but appreciation for you creating lightscribe labels and hope you continue to do so!

    • Hey rexbinary, thank you so much for trying it out!!! I’ll try to make some revisions to fix the centering – do you think it’s worth making the background darker or do you think having a background is not worth it? I worry about making it dark enough that it interferes with the more important text. Do you know of any light scribe label designs that use a background image that works well?

    • I tried to install lightscribe in F12, but it does not work
      How did you install?

  7. Well I don’t have any examples unfortunately. I was looking at the lightscribe labels you did for Fedora 10 (those were great by the way), and it seems the background would have to be as dark as the design on the bottom of those labels.

You could either just put a portion of the background out of the way of the text and logo similar to what you did on the F10 labels, or you could outline the logo and text with thick blank space possibly?

  8. Hi! It’s my first time commenting here :D

Just want to say that are really beautiful the sleeves and labels. Many thanks to Luya, to you and to all the Artwork team of fedora, a great job that you did in this fedora release!

    Well, that’s all. Greetings!

P.D. Good blog that you have n_n

  9. Well, I gave a try to one of the lightscribe design and I must say it’s quite nice. IMHO improvements could be :
    – to shift the text to the right (I had to zoom in the design and cut a bit the borders to get it right)
    – to make a higer contrast, fedora 10 designs were perfect in this respect.

Thanks for this nice work !
