Show me your desktop. What wallpaper are you using right now?
To answer my own question, I’m using the default Fedora 10 wallpaper, but have been known to also sport the pink Django pony wallpaper on occasion… :)
I use this wallpaper http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/184567/wallpaper.jpg tiled.
I love it, it is very classy, and with a dark GTK theme, it looks very professional.
More pattern backgrounds for GNOME !!!
I use a solid blue. However, it’s 100% covered most of the time. I never minimize windows, only shuffle them around. I don’t use multiply workspaces either.
re: What wallpaper are you using right now?
the best grass wallpaper I could find
Re: What wallpaper are you using right now?
What is the dock down there, seems pretty and simple and elegant, nothing like the fancy stuff on all other screen shots with dock I have seen. Thanks
Seems to be Gnome Do with the Docky extension :)
That would be the docky plugin for gnome-do
It’s gnome-do’s docky theme. You can get gnome-do here http://do.davebsd.com/
It’s not mainly a dock, it just a fancier interface for gnome-do. check it out :)
I’m using the default Fedora 10 wallpaper… under Fedora 9 :P
The default vertical gradient. :/

Jo Chen’s Willow
From the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8″ graphic novels:
Re: Jo Chen’s Willow
ooooh that’s pretty!
Missed this earlier. I actually know Jo through her hubby. Name drop FTW!
Solar at 1600×1200
and I totally dig it.
We had this thread a while ago on the french forum, there are 49 pages of Desktop screenshots:
great link!! thanks so much! :)
Re: 2 wallpapers
forgot one more… desktop at work:
Rotate my wallpaper every 30 minutes
I download various images from Astronomy Picture of the Day and use them as backgrounds with various other things that I snarf. I used to have a different desktop per window but the window managers don’t seem to support that as nicely as they used to. I have wallpaper-tray rotate through them so I get something different whenever a desktop is free. Otherwise it rotates various images I have snarfed (the other big one is ICF ones that were done a while back.)
Does that help?
I am adding the pink ponies to my rotation so that I can send it to people who ask me for the impossible.
Re: Rotate my wallpaper every 30 minutes
Can you tell me which one you have displaying right now, or a recent one that you really like?
It depends on webilder :) http://www.webilder.org
Hehe i like how in the example the person picks the tags “girl, swimsuit, beach”
I like this example too :) It’s an interesting app, it lets me review flicr photographs in my own desktop.
Can you tell me which one is displaying right now? Or which has displayed recently that you like?
actually there are
$ ll .webilder/Collection/*/* |wc -l
I like :)
I keep the ones I like most.
I’m using this on my Eee PC: http://molaora.com/index.php/photos/album/4/photo/68.html
And this on my primary desktop computer: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/F10Themes/InvinXble#Wallpaper:
http://www.mcescher.net/target37.html, tiled :).
I’m using the default Fedora 10 wallpaper.
My screen tends to be filled with apps, so I don’t usually see it often enough to care about changing it.
I’m using my own photo with small GNOME logo on it: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Sunflower?content=78290
But what probably is much more interesting for you is located here: http://informationisart.com/desktop/
My 4-year-old daughter ordered me to use
file:///usr/share/backgrounds/images/flowers_and_leaves.jpg :) But default F10 Solar theme sneaks in sometimes
At work, I’m using a picture I’m making that’s currently in progress:
this is in the hopes that it will inspire me to actually finish it someday ;)
At home, I have this picture as my background:
because it amuses me so!
Hilltop View by someone named phil2001.
It was posted on InterfaceLIFT a few days ago.
I normally use wallpapers from one of my three favorite wallpaper sources: InterfaceLIFT, KDE-Look.org or the Fedora Art Team…there’s lots of really cool wallpapers IMHO :) and there’s always something new if I need something different :)
#3: F10 default theme :)
Nice question! I also use wallpaper-tray to randomise my desktop wallpaper at each login – right now I’m looking at a panorama I stitched together using Hugin.
The picture is of the openplan workspace were I used to work. It has a nice feel for the space, and most people happened to be sitting still while I took the snaps, but there is one pair of disembodied feet walking towards the camera, and my manager is aiming a Nerf gun at me *8)
ps. found this on your Gnome feed…
My current desktop
Here below is my current desktop, enjoy ;)
Re: My current desktop
I love it!!!! Thanks for sharing :) It’s spectacular!
I’m glad you like it :)
The original and a few others can be found on the author’s page at :
The default KDE 4.2 wallpaper, which I think is so pretty I put it on my Windows install as well.
Wallpaper (from interfacelift.com):
I’ve used the default Ubuntu Ibex wallpaper for some time, but lately I’ve changed it to this beautiful photo:
http://www.kryogenix.org/days/2009/01/09/how-my-desktop-looks — very simple Ubuntu brown wallpaper I made (the background colour of which I plan to bleed onto the bezel surrounding the screen of my laptop).
Garrets photos – this one ATM
your desktop one is so cute! are those characters from a book or show?
I use this on all my PC’s. Absolutely love it.
Very cool. It definitely gives a nice feeling of depth, but it’s dark and muted so I can see how it wouldn’t be too distracting, either.
I’m with Zaitcev
I’m with Zaitcev – solid blue, because I never see it.
There’s a Mandriva forum ‘show off your desktop’ thread here:
I’d expect the Ubuntu forums would have one too, if you look.
Hi, sorry for depressive pictures, but i like this:)

I’ve got a neat picture I took from near where I grew up. This is an old “short line” railroad track that runs as far as the eye can see.
It’s my latest deviantart submission
I’m currently using this wallpaper called LHBlissful.bmp. No idea where it originally came from; I received it via email after seeing it in a screenshot on DeviantArt and asking the poster where he got it from.
Here is a link to my reupload, conveniently converted to high quality JPEG.
I use this:
I had previously a tasteful-but-scantily-clad pic of Velma from Scooby-Doo. You can email me if you want that one, I’ll spare your readers.
“The Death of the Grave-Digger.”
For F8 and F9 I stayed with the default wallpaper, but I can’t stand Solar due to a technical glitch (the sun does not look 3D, but like a circle with beveled edges, not sure if that was so since the beginning or was added in the clean-up process with the replacement of the moon photo).
So right now I use some self-made photos (close-up of dead roses on the desktop and fireworks on the laptop). But most of the time the wallpaper is covered by windows, so it does not really matter.
BTW, I saw this asked a few times and don’t know the answer myself: how can one change the GDM wallpaper so it fit the desktop wallpaper? you know, for a really smooth translation from GDM to desktop.
I’ve always used Fedora default backgrounds.
But since F8, I kinda got stuck to Infinity. :)
I’ll have to ask Ray since I’m not sure myself… one sec
Nicu, Ray says that you have to run gnome-appearance-properties, choose the background that you want, then pick ‘set as default’ – whatever background is ‘set as default’ will be GDM’s background.
thanks, it was so intuitive that I feel bad now for not noticing the button before… well, not *that* bad since I am not the only who didn’t notice the button, Andreas Nilsson was asking the same thing in #fedora-art and nobody had an answer :p
but from an usability POV, that button looks like the best choice.

I never see my desktop anyway.

Despite the small size/resolution for a 1440×900 screen, I’m still using a seven-year-old background
I’ve attempted to contact the creator a couple times over the years since then asking for the source files or a significantly higher-resolution version (ideally with a much larger aspect ratio), but no dice. Even with the necessary stretching for my screen’s resolution and aspect ratio, however, I have always loved this background, especially for how little it distracts from the contents of the desktop. I was on a big Star Wars theming kick at the time I selected this, trying at least a dozen different backgrounds, even some truly garish ones derived from posters. Those backgrounds might have worked as posters, but they were too visually busy to work as a desktop background that shouldn’t distract from the icons on it. After much experimentation this was the only background I found that was Star Wars-functional yet not eye-catching, and I’ve stuck with it every since. I did try to use an Apple background in OS X once, but even with the better quality and fit for my screen, I had to go back to this one.
Re: Despite the small size/resolution for a 1440×900 screen, I’m still using a seven-year-old backgr
(By the way, that was Jeff Walden who posted the parent comment of this; I simply forgot to identify myself, as is my usual custom on blog posts whose comments don’t easily allow for structured self-identification.)
Ask and ye shall receive!
Only using the wallpaper cuz it matched icons I wanted to use. :)
Re: Ask and ye shall receive!
very nice :) what icon set is that?

Re: My Wallpaper
haha nice! Iron-Man!!
I’m using this right now
I made a big collage of various pictures of my two sons that spans my 1920×1200+1600×1200 dual monitor setup. I usually use pictures of them or other photos I’ve taken for wall papers on all my systems.
This is my daughter, wearing my Fedora cap (she steals it from me every time she sees it), and the MIT “Smart Cookie” t-shirt I picked up last summer at FUDConF10 Boston.
very cute! :) thank you!
This is my new wallpaper just found it a couple days ago!
Re: My wallpaper
that’s gorgeous! it reminds me of a photographic version of AA Milne’s winnie the pooh artwork…
I am using the following 3360×1050 background:
Desktops need some more dual wide-screen monitor love :)
Oh, and mihmo, keep up the great graphics work.
Re: Background image
wow, that’s quite nice, it’s got a lot of depth to it too!
thanks for the nice comments about my work :)
What wallpaper are you using right now?
This photo of Fay Wray
most ppl don’t like my background
…besides i’m not sure of the redistribution terms.
I’ve been using this for a year or something. I think Lennart Pottering took it.

http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/1787/200901231916442704x1050ep8.png – i like dark, non distracting wallpapers. It’s here just because on solid color my terminals slip and crash =P
notes from Danial:
In response to your email (from the art team mailing list) and survey,
whereas I really do enjoy most of the default artwork created for
fedora, I usually change the theme and wallpapers almost immediately. Normally I either use photos or graphics I have created myself.
My current wallpaper selection(s) on F10 are derived from these shots:
These, however, are subject to change depending on whether or not I good
any decent shots from the latest weekend jaunt. ;)
On a more serious note, my work machine, is a simple vertical gradient
due to the number of icons I keep on the workspace.
Former Windows User
Former windows user here.. I’ve been using the default wallpaper on every Fedora release. Funny, I cannot stand the default Windows wallpaper, and I’ve not found a better Fedora wallpaper. I think the artwork group does a phenomenal job.
I have never liked busy, detracting wallpaper.
I also use the Solar wallpaper. It looks awesome. I have never seen such a nice artwork anywhere.
I also use Solar wallpaper. It looks awesome. I have never seen such a nice art work ever.
i normally have all wallpapers at ‘~/.backgrounds’, and have a python script which runs at startup and gets one randomly from there
