To answer my own question, I’m using the default Fedora 10 wallpaper, but have been known to also sport the pink Django pony wallpaper on occasion… :)

I use this wallpaper http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/184567/wallpaper.jpg tiled.
I love it, it is very classy, and with a dark GTK theme, it looks very professional.

More pattern backgrounds for GNOME !!!

I use a solid blue. However, it’s 100% covered most of the time. I never minimize windows, only shuffle them around. I don’t use multiply workspaces either.

What is the dock down there, seems pretty and simple and elegant, nothing like the fancy stuff on all other screen shots with dock I have seen. Thanks

Re: What wallpaper are you using right now?

That would be the docky plugin for gnome-do

      • Anonymous said, on January 23, 2009 at 3:52 am

Re: What wallpaper are you using right now?

It’s gnome-do’s docky theme. You can get gnome-do here http://do.davebsd.com/

It’s not mainly a dock, it just a fancier interface for gnome-do. check it out :)

Rotate my wallpaper every 30 minutes

I download various images from Astronomy Picture of the Day and use them as backgrounds with various other things that I snarf. I used to have a different desktop per window but the window managers don’t seem to support that as nicely as they used to. I have wallpaper-tray rotate through them so I get something different whenever a desktop is free. Otherwise it rotates various images I have snarfed (the other big one is ICF ones that were done a while back.)

    Does that help?

I am adding the pink ponies to my rotation so that I can send it to people who ask me for the impossible.

    What wallpaper?

Nice question! I also use wallpaper-tray to randomise my desktop wallpaper at each login – right now I’m looking at a panorama I stitched together using Hugin.

The picture is of the openplan workspace were I used to work. It has a nice feel for the space, and most people happened to be sitting still while I took the snaps, but there is one pair of disembodied feet walking towards the camera, and my manager is aiming a Nerf gun at me *8)

ps. found this on your Gnome feed…

  42. nicubunulj said, on January 22, 2009 at 7:31 am

For F8 and F9 I stayed with the default wallpaper, but I can’t stand Solar due to a technical glitch (the sun does not look 3D, but like a circle with beveled edges, not sure if that was so since the beginning or was added in the clean-up process with the replacement of the moon photo).

So right now I use some self-made photos (close-up of dead roses on the desktop and fireworks on the laptop). But most of the time the wallpaper is covered by windows, so it does not really matter.

BTW, I saw this asked a few times and don’t know the answer myself: how can one change the GDM wallpaper so it fit the desktop wallpaper? you know, for a really smooth translation from GDM to desktop.

    • Anonymous said, on January 22, 2009 at 9:16 am

      Infinity FTW

I’ve always used Fedora default backgrounds.

But since F8, I kinda got stuck to Infinity. :)

    • mairin said, on January 23, 2009 at 6:46 pm

I’ll have to ask Ray since I’m not sure myself… one sec

    • mairin said, on January 23, 2009 at 6:51 pm

Nicu, Ray says that you have to run gnome-appearance-properties, choose the background that you want, then pick ’set as default’ – whatever background is ’set as default’ will be GDM’s background.

      • nicubunulj said, on January 26, 2009 at 6:59 am

thanks, it was so intuitive that I feel bad now for not noticing the button before… well, not *that* bad since I am not the only who didn’t notice the button, Andreas Nilsson was asking the same thing in #fedora-art and nobody had an answer :p

but from an usability POV, that button looks like the best choice.

    Despite the small size/resolution for a 1440×900 screen, I’m still using a seven-year-old background

    http://web.archive.org/web/20031114192127/www.imperialcenter.com/3d/cloudcity.jpg

I’ve attempted to contact the creator a couple times over the years since then asking for the source files or a significantly higher-resolution version (ideally with a much larger aspect ratio), but no dice. Even with the necessary stretching for my screen’s resolution and aspect ratio, however, I have always loved this background, especially for how little it distracts from the contents of the desktop. I was on a big Star Wars theming kick at the time I selected this, trying at least a dozen different backgrounds, even some truly garish ones derived from posters. Those backgrounds might have worked as posters, but they were too visually busy to work as a desktop background that shouldn’t distract from the icons on it. After much experimentation this was the only background I found that was Star Wars-functional yet not eye-catching, and I’ve stuck with it every since. I did try to use an Apple background in OS X once, but even with the better quality and fit for my screen, I had to go back to this one.

    notes from Danial:

In response to your email (from the art team mailing list) and survey,
whereas I really do enjoy most of the default artwork created for
fedora, I usually change the theme and wallpapers almost immediately. Normally I either use photos or graphics I have created myself.

My current wallpaper selection(s) on F10 are derived from these shots:

    http://www.zyloo-enterprises.com/graphics/October-moon-600.jpg
    http://www.zyloo-enterprises.com/graphics/autumn-mix.jpg

    http://www.zyloo-enterprises.com/graphics/floor-reds-600.jpg
    http://www.zyloo-enterprises.com/graphics/big-thumbnail.jpg

These, however, are subject to change depending on whether or not I good
any decent shots from the latest weekend jaunt. ;)

On a more serious note, my work machine, is a simple vertical gradient

    Former Windows User

Former windows user here.. I’ve been using the default wallpaper on every Fedora release. Funny, I cannot stand the default Windows wallpaper, and I’ve not found a better Fedora wallpaper. I think the artwork group does a phenomenal job.

I have never liked busy, detracting wallpaper.

I also use the Solar wallpaper. It looks awesome. I have never seen such a nice artwork anywhere.
