Patrick Ernzer asked me about putting together a Fedora 10 Lightscribe label together. This was a pretty quick job and I used some of the artwork Jayme Ayres put together on the Fedora 10 Media Art page. Patrick was kind enough to test it out for me and send me a copy so I could take photos of it for the Fedora 10 Media Art page.
Like it? Got a Lightscribe burner? Grab the template!
(as always, the source for the template is available)

Nice
Now I want a light-scribe burner. That looks really really nice.

Can Free Software do this LightScribe thing? Which app should I use?
Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008, 2:52 amRe: Free software?
It can… I don’t have a Lightscribe drive myself so I am not as familiar with it. If you google around though you’ll find the free software app that’ll do it. I am fairly certain Patrick used Fedora itself to burn it.

OK, I was certain that LightScribe was not supported too. Thanks for the note.

OK, I googled and did only find a closed source simplelabeler.
What was used?

Okay, so it turns out LaCie (http://www.lacie.com/us/support/support_manifest.htm?id=10204) is what I think it’s most popular to use on Linux, so it works fine in Fedora, but LaCie itself is not open source.
(I didn’t realize that before)
Posted by mairin | December 11, 2008, 4:17 pmLightscribe makes sense now. =) If only LS-compatible media were cheaper =(

For Fedora 9 Lightscribe media I had to use non-free software (running on Fedora, of course).

I didn’t realize LaCie was closed-source
