We are looking to design a nice site for spins.fedoraproject.org for people to learn about spins, find all the various official spins that are available, and download said spins via torrent links.
I came up with a mockup with lame placeholder stock art and was wondering -
Would anyone be willing to be the face of a Fedora spin? If we held a contest or something for people to send in photos of themselves representing one of the official Fedora spins, would anyone be interested in entering? Or would that be a cracktastic idea? …Discuss!
Yo
Mix master J5 here would love to model for a spin.

I won’t sent my photo as I already know nobody want to see MY face, but it sound like a good idea. Just take care of the license (CC-BY-SA?)

CC-BY or CC-BY-SA seems reasonable!
Posted by mairin | October 11, 2007, 3:05 pmI can…
license a few of my pictures for the spins image. The pictures I have are in big enough resolution and clear enough quality (pro camera, semipro photoshoot) that they’d work for almost any use.

Not too cracktastic if you ask me. My wife says Fedora has the best-looking contributors. She assured me that had nothing to do with me. Hmm… Not sure how to take that.

very cool idea, and i like where the mockup is going.
As usual, the Fedora Art team produces incredible work when given the freedom to be innovative.

Thanks Mizmo, that’s exactly the type of page we should have for the spins page, friendly and cool. Can we just use other CC pictures if we can’t find Fedora people? We can always grab some at the next FUDCon.
Posted by mmcgrath | October 11, 2007, 3:04 pmFaces for spins! Such a concept has inspired me to look into creating
the “Evil Scientist” spin or the “Nuclear Reactor Emergency Management” spin just to propose a couple of “friendly” pictures for them.

- What if the “Spin” title is lower case?
- can that page be translated via transifex? At the moment, the main page of fedoraproject.org is only english.
- In “What is spin?” paragraph, how about making the corner curved?
Other than that, that mock is very simple yet elegant.

what’s transifex?
the stuff under ‘what is spin’ is just placeholders. when i have time i’m hoping to replace those ugly grey blocks with actual illustrations
